  • Blake Shelton is close to fiancée Gwen Stefani's three kids with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale
  • Shelton got the approval of Stefani's father before proposing as she is "very traditional," a report says
  • The country singer proposed the weekend of Oct. 17 in Oklahoma

Blake Shelton made sure to include Gwen Stefani's sons in the excitement when he popped the question to their mother earlier this month.

Shelton and Stefani announced earlier this week that they have gotten engaged after five years of dating. Stefani's children with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale — Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6 — reportedly adore their future stepfather and helped Shelton with his engagement plans "every step of the way."

"Blake is very close to Gwen's boys," an unnamed insider told Entertainment Tonight.

"They talked it through and Blake made sure they were part of the excitement! Blake had a custom-made engagement ring," the source continued. "He knows the designer and has used them in the past to make bracelets for Gwen."

Shelton asked Stefani's dad for his blessing before he proposed to her, the source added. The No Doubt singer is apparently "very traditional" so Shelton felt that getting her father's approval before popping the question was the "proper" route to take.

The insider added that Stefani's dad "adores" Shelton and had no problem with them tying the knot.

"Gwen has been ready to tie the knot for a long time and Blake knew this was the perfect time," the tipster said.

Shelton proposed to Stefani the weekend of Oct. 17 in Oklahoma, where the former has a home. The country singer felt that it was high time for them to take their relationship to the next level after dating for several years.

"Blake has been the one who wanted to take it slow in the beginning but recently he decided it was time. During the pandemic, they’ve had lots of downtime together and he truly saw the importance of spending life with the person you love," another unnamed source told ET in an earlier report.

"Gwen takes marriage very seriously and was disappointed that her first marriage [to Gavin Rossdale] didn’t work out," the insider continued. "She wasn't in a hurry because she wanted to ensure Blake was ready.”

Both Shelton and Stefani have been incredibly busy in their careers, but the pandemic gave them the opportunity to slow down and appreciate each other more.

The “God Gave Me You” crooner is reportedly eager to tie the knot with his fiancée, according to another insider. In fact, their wedding may be held before the year ends.

"Blake is just ready to be married and wants it to happen very soon," an unnamed source told Us Weekly.
