Bollywood actor and singer Pawan Singh's wife, Jyoti Singh, accused her estranged husband of physical and mental assault, alleging he instigated her to take her own life and forced her to get an abortion twice.

Ballia city police station lead inspector Praveen Kumar Singh said Sunday that Jyoti has filed a complaint against the 36-year-old Bhojpuri film actor and that they are currently investigating the allegations, NDTV reported.

Pawan did not respond to the calls, according to the outlet.

Joyti, who married Pawan in March 2018, alleged that only a few days after their wedding, the actor, his mother Pratima Devi and his sister started insulting her for her looks and abusing her every day.

She also alleged that her mother-in-law forcibly took away money amounting to 50 lakh ($60,700) that Jyoti received from her maternal uncle.

The complaint claimed that in addition to allegedly being abused and assaulted in "various ways," Jyoti was "pushed" to take her own life.

She alleged that she experienced a miscarriage after being given abortifacient medication when she was pregnant and that her husband started abusing and assaulting her after getting drunk and forcing her to take her life. Jyoti also claimed that a Mercedes car was demanded from her.

Pawan's second wife told the Press Trust of India that she can back her allegations with evidence and that she would make them public at the "right time."

According to a DNA report, Jyoti's lawyer told local media that the "Lollypop Lagelu" singer forced Jyoti to get an abortion twice and got violent with his wife quite often, DNP India reported.

In October last year, Jyoti filed for divorce in a family court in Arrah, Bihar, alleging physical and verbal abuse. Divorce proceedings are ongoing, with a maintenance suit being filed against Pawan in April.

A wife can file a maintenance case against her husband under Indian law when she is unable to support herself financially, according to MyAdvo.

Prior to marrying Jyoti, Pawan was married to Neelam Singh in 2014. His first wife died by suicide three months after their wedding, according to DNP.

The actor became the subject of media scrutiny at the time despite the reason for Neelam's suicide being unknown. He was then linked to several actresses.

Pawan has yet to release an official statement regarding Jyoti's allegations. But he has been summoned by a family court for a hearing on Nov. 5.
