  • Suga underwent surgery Tuesday to address shoulder issues that stemmed from a 2012 accident

BTS' Suga has given fans an update regarding his condition following his shoulder surgery. Unfortunately, he confirmed that he will not be able to take part in some of the band's scheduled activities, possibly including promotions for BTS' upcoming album.

"After the announcement, many people were worried and so I’m sorry and really grateful..! Thankfully, the surgery went well. My current state is that I do feel some pain but I’m very relieved," Suga, 27, said Friday in a statement released via the BTS fan community Weverse.

The BTS rapper, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, explained that he had put off undergoing surgery to address his shoulder problems for a long time and treated his issues with "rehabilitation and shots." However, his condition worsened every time he performed.

Suga said he finally decided to go through with the surgery after it was suggested by most of the medical professionals he consulted.

"So after three out of four hospitals said that it would be good to do the surgery considering my condition, I had the surgery… (I really agonized over it a lot..!)," he said in his note.

Suga assured fans that despite not being able to join the rest of the members of BTS for the coming weeks, he will be returning as soon as he is given the go-ahead.

"[I] won’t be able to take part in scheduled activities for the time being so I feel sorry toward the members and to ARMY. I think it’s such a shame too.. I’ll be away for a bit so that I can recover as soon as possible, but I’ll be back soon. It won’t be that long! Once again, I’m sorry and thank you, ARMY!" he concluded, addressing BTS fans.

Earlier in the day, BTS' label, Big Hit Entertainment, announced that Suga underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum on Tuesday. The company said the K-pop star "has long suffered from shoulder-related health issues" due to an accident in 2012 before BTS made its debut in the music scene.

"He was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder in 2013. Shoulder pains continued until he was further diagnosed in 2019 with 'posterior labral tear of his left shoulder,' which means that the cartilage around his left shoulder joint has been torn," the statement obtained by Entertainment Tonight read. "Since then, he has continued to receive various treatment to prevent his injury from affecting his activities."

Suga recently ranked second place on the 100 Sexiest Men in the World poll after getting 33.62% of the votes (228,289 votes). He was leading among Korean stars, but Xiao Zhan, a Chinese actor and singer who starred in the hit drama "The Untamed," ranked first overall in the list.

BTS is currently gearing up for the release of its new album, "BE," on Nov. 20.
