Cal ISO Said Loss of 500-kv Line Triggered Outages
The California grid operator said the loss of a 500-kilovolt line on Thursday triggered a widespread power outage affecting more than 1 million people in Southern California and knocked a nuclear plant offline.
The California Independent System Operator which oversees the flow of electricity in the state said it declared a transmission emergency after a major system disturbance occurred on a line between Arizona and California.
No other details of the disturbance were disclosed.
