Erik Cole scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the win for Carolina (24-19-6), who defeated the Maple Leafs for the fifth consecutive time. They have also won nine of their last 11 meetings.

Toronto (19-24-5) have lost five of their last six games overall.

Carolina's Joe Corvo opened the scoring in the first period before Tomas Kaberle equalized. Jamie McBain scored midway through the second period to give the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead.
