KEY POINTS

  • Edinson Cavani recently moved from PSG to Man Utd on a free transfer
  • Cavani has been asked to self-isolate for 14 days
  • Martial has been banned from Man Utd's next Premier League game

Manchester United will be without Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial in their upcoming Newcastle outing in the Premier League on Saturday. The 27-year-old left-back Alex Telles is expected to be in line to make his league debut for Man Utd.

Cavani moved from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Man Utd as a free agent on the deadline day of the recently ended summer transfer window. The 33-year-old forward will have to wait to make his first Man Utd appearance as he is currently self-isolating himself, as per the United Kingdom government’s rules, as reported by sports website talkSport.

Cavani is not included in the elite list of exempted athletes because he flew in from France, a country that is not on the U.K.’s travel corridor list, and hence, he has to self-isolate for 14 days.

The talkSport report further stated Telles, who made a $20 million move from FC Porto to Man Utd this summer window, is currently in Brazil on international duty and will not face the same restrictions as Cavani as he is in an elite bubble.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will also be without his ace striker Martial, who is banned after being slapped with a red card during Man Utd’s humiliating 6-1 loss to Jose Mourinho’s Spurs at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer’s side has had a terrible start to the 2020-21 Premier League season, having suffered two losses in three matches. The Red Devils are placed 16th in the points table. Man Utd kickstarted the campaign with a 1-0 loss at home against Crystal Palace before they made amends and went past Brighton in a 3-2 victory. Before the international break went underway, Spurs thrashed Man Utd 6-1 at the iconic Old Trafford and as a result, Solskjaer and his boys received massive criticism.

On the same day, defending champions Liverpool suffered a bigger loss when Aston Villa defeated Jurgen Klopp’s side 7-2 at the Villa Park.
