Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has never beaten Tom Brady in a head-to-head matchup but that will not deter the veteran on Sunday. The Chargers are in Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs with Rivers looking to shed the Chargers' reputation for underachieving.

In the eyes of many NFL experts, the Chargers are the more talented team in this matchup, and perhaps the most balanced team in the AFC. They enter Sunday with some injury concerns over running back Melvin Gordon and tight end Hunter Henry. While Gordon is expected to play, Henry is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report.

If the Chargers cannot get their running game going, additional pressure will be placed on Rivers and receivers like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams to step up. Rivers has not played especially well as of late, throwing for just four touchdowns against six interceptions in his last five games. He has not registered a passer rating above 100 since Dec. 2.

Brady did not play up to his typical MVP standards in 2018 but he improved down the stretch. He threw 10 touchdowns against four interceptions in his last five games. However, there are still questions about New England’s overall offensive and defensive efficiency — in the final five games the Patriots only went 3-2 and none of their opponents reached the playoffs.

The Patriots are relatively healthy heading into the game and their significant home-field advantage gives them an edge in the eyes of many pundits and oddsmakers.
