  • Tuchel is happy his gamble involving Hudson-Odoi paid off

Chelsea FC is expected to undergo changes with a new manager in charge, and several players will benefit. One of them is Callum Hudson-Odoi, someone who failed to get regular minutes under former head coach Frank Lampard.

As most know by now, Thomas Tuchel is the new man at the helm for the Blues. He has utilized the 20-year-old in the last three games, and Hudson-Odoi has responded. Tuchel is now using the English player as a wing-back and the move has been so far effective.

Under Tuchel, Chelsea FC has won two matches, while another ended in a tie. These included back-to-back wins against Burnley and Tottenham, and Hudson-Odoi is loving it.

"I'm liking it because it's motivating when a manager is on the side giving you instructions and pushing you and shouting at you," Hudson-Odoi said to Sky Sports. "Sometimes you don't like shouting but sometimes it motivates players to keep improving and keep showing your quality.”

The positive response of the English player has also been lauded by Tuchel. He took into consideration the best qualities of Hudson-Odoi and the gamble has paid off.

"We just let him drive and he did very good, showing all his qualities he has: the high speed, the quick recoveries, dribbles, good one-on-one," Tuchel stated via the team’s official site. "Maybe in some defensive duels in the air there is space to improve, but this is absolutely normal. I am very happy he was happy to be on the pitch. He has given his best and that’s what we have asked for."

The sudden emergence of Hudson-Odoi is commendable considering he was already frustrated by the lack of playing time last month. Part of that is because he was coming off an Achilles tendon injury that sidelined him in April.

The English footballer tried to remain patient, knowing that he would get his chance. Lampard knew that Hudson-Odoi would eventually break out of his spell, but the frustrations were already piling.

Hudson-Odoi got the chance to show his stuff but under a different coach. The gamble has paid off and the Blues are enjoying it. It is also a good sign on the part of Tuchel, who has so far reaped success in the early stages of this Chelsea FC term.
