  • Chelsea to get a portion of Jeremie Boga deal to Rennes
  • Boga looking to move up with Rennes
  • Boga on the radar of several clubs

Chelsea FC needs all the help they can get financially and one may be coming their way. Stade Rennais FC appears to be nearing a deal for Jeremie Boga of US Sassuolod Calcio and the Blues are set to get a portion of whatever agreed fee is reached.

The reason behind this is because the Blues were able to turn the original $18 million buy-back clause of Boga into a sell-on clause. This means, that Chelsea will get 10 to 15 percent of the fee agreed upon between Sassuolo and Rennes for Boga, Goal reported.

Sassuolo set an asking price of about $35 million for the 23-year-old and several teams are lurking. Among them include Serie A teams such as Atalanta, Napoli and Roma. Considering Boga’s performance in the past two years, the interest hardly comes as a surprise.

Last season, Boga scored 11 goals across all competitions. The move out of Stamford Bridge proved to be beneficial to the French midfielder after being loaned out by the Blues on several occasions. Aside from his move to Italy, the midfielder gained experience playing in Ligue 1, La Liga and the Championship.

There is a chance Boga may return to the Premier League if Brighton can get something done with Sassuolo. But the message is clear – Boga wants to leave this summer and take on a different challenge. Of the clubs mentioned, Rennes looms as the one at the top of the heap.

“I can’t speak about numbers. He is quite simply a player who is coming out of a very good spell with Sassuolo,” Rennes manager Julien Stephan said to Telefoot. “He is a player who is one of our potential targets, there is enormous competition with very big clubs – we will see what happens in the coming weeks and months."

Boga should be a fine addition to any of the clubs, someone who can penetrate and can finish off moves. Rennes is tipped to secure his services although Napoli and other Serie A clubs could still come in and pull off something.

Regardless of who secures him, Chelsea stands to gain. The Blues need to replenish funds following their massive haul that includes Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell. Kai Havertz is next on the list, someone who will not come cheap from Bayer Leverkusen.
