Premier League contender Chelsea may be planning a move to replace one of its record-breaking signings, a report said.

Following a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United, Frank Lampard’s side is now bound to face a difficult situation for the remainder of the Premier League season. One of the main problems identified by pundits in recent Chelsea matches was the leaked goals.

The Blues have conceded eight goals in four games. It’s quite an alarming figure considering that the club is hoping to become a Champions League contender.

However, Chelsea might have found a solution to this setback. A new report from The Athletic football correspondent David Ornstein revealed that Lampard is now considering pursuing a highly-rated goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Chelsea reportedly has its eyes set on Ajax star Andre Onana as a possible replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea has had troubles with Arrizabalaga as he has struggled to be in his best form throughout the season. In fact, the once phenomenal goalkeeper has conceded a total of 53 goals so far.

Reports suggest that things could get better in the goalkeeping department for the Blues once Onana’s signing comes to fruition this summer. He may become available for €30 million ($34 million) as soon as the transfer window opens up, the report added.

The 24-year-old has made a total of 178 appearances for Ajax.

Evidently, Onana’s price tag is a far cheaper fee compared to the amount paid by the Blues to Athletic Bilbao when they signed Arrizabalaga in 2018. It can be recalled that Chelsea splurged a lump sum of £71 million ($89 million) on the Arrizabalaga, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in history.

Should the deal progress, this could be another negotiation to look out for as Chelsea and Ajax have already been involved in discussions over a transfer this year. As for Onana, the report noted the Cameroonian goalkeeper has also been keen on taking his talents to England.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has also been linked to another sensational transfer move. The Premier League hopefuls are reportedly planning to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic as a possible Timo Werner co-star.

Jovic has struggled to serve his purpose for Los Blancos, scoring only two goals in 25 appearances. Madrid is reportedly willing to let Jovic go for around €35 million ($39.7 million), a price tag that has reportedly been gauged by Chelsea as bearable.
