KEY POINTS

  • The Premier League finished with Chelsea finishing in a top-four spot
  • Chelsea has been reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz
  • Havertz has scored 45 goals throughout his career with Bayer Leverkusen

The top four slots of this year’s Premier League features Chelsea finishing in fourth place. As the team qualified for the Champions League, one prospect they’ve set their eyes on is Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Per Goal.com, Chelsea has garnered interest for the attacking midfielder with how well the 21-year-old has performed in his young career. Throughout his stint with the Germany based squad, he’s proven to be one of the most reliable scorers of the club. In 148 appearances, he has already scored 45 goals to go along with 31 assists.

The scoring ability that Havertz has is tremendous with the way he moves around the field. One of his key strengths is scouted to be his ability to pass, dribble and capitalizing on headers. In addition to this, he also has a passing percentage of 85.3% coupled with 1.5 aerial duels won. With his tendency to cut inside and stay aggressive, Havertz remains to be an asset for any club to have.

Having someone like Havertz’s caliber may cost at an estimate of 100 million Euros. But it has been recorded that this figure can be negotiated as low as 76 million Euros. With the current global economic status, teams now must be prudent in terms of their financial status.

If Chelsea manages to sign Havertz, he will be in a roster that includes several capable players. It was a tough Premier League season as Chelsea was closely contested with Manchester United throughout the year. With stars such as Tammy Abraham, Frank Lampard will have multiple options to field in the years to come. With the team successfully qualifying for the Champions League, Havertz may provide his playmaking skills for the Blues.

The competition remains tough for Lampard and the rest of the club but the possibility of adding someone like Havertz will be crucial for the franchise. It will be interesting to see how Manchester United moves forward with their lineup and how talent such as Havertz will fit in if ever he fits in with Lampard’s team.
