KEY POINTS

  • West Ham defeated Chelsea 3-2 in the league last week
  • Mason Mount now has scored in 2 straight league games
  • Chelsea have only 2 wins in their last 4 league games

Mason Mount has asked his teammates to “step up” and react after Chelsea’s 3-2 loss to West Ham in the Premier League Saturday.

Chelsea have clinched only two wins from their last four league games. As a result, they have been displaced from the top of the points table and have dropped to third place, two points behind leaders Manchester City.

The Blues lost 3-2 to West Ham at the London Stadium in their previous fixture. Thiago Silva opened the scoring of the game before home side’s Manuel Lanzini negated the lead with a 40th-minute successful penalty strike.

Just before the half-time break, Mount put Chelsea back into the lead with his 44th-minute goal. However, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen netted an equalizer a few minutes into the second half before Arthur Masuaku netted the winner for The Hammers.

“I haven’t seen it back but it doesn’t really mean anything. We play for three points and we want to still be at the top of the league pushing but we’ve come away with nothing today,” Mount said in a recent interview as per Chelsea’s official website.

Even against Watford, Chelsea’s performance was not up to the mark but a late winner from Hakim Ziyech had recused Thomas Tuchel’s side at the Vicarage Road. Even the German boss had admitted that his side produced a “sloppy show” and they were only lucky to have ended on the winning side.

“It’s been a tough week. The Watford game was a win but it could have gone either way and we scraped it really and now this one is a defeat. As the gaffer said, maybe it’s a bump in the road but the players in the team need to step up and come strong in the next game. We must react from this performance because we need to get back to winning ways,” Mount said further.
