“Chicago Fire” returns with a new Season 7 episode on Dec. 5. Elizabeth Morris/NBC

Fans will have to wait a little while longer to see a new episode of NBC’s “Chicago Fire.”

There wasn’t a new episode last week, and there isn’t one tonight, either. The drama returns with Season 7, episode 9, titled “Always A Catch,” on Dec. 5. When it comes back, the stakes will be high for all the characters.

“[A] massive car pile-up on the freeway impacts someone dear to the firehouse family,” the synopsis reveals. “Brett [Kara Killmer] and Foster [Annie Ilonzeh] encounter a harrowing call while Kidd [Miranda Rae Mayo] and Severide [Taylor Kinney] find their relationship being tested.”

Instead of a new “Chicago Fire” tonight, NBC will be airing its 86th Annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center program from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST. The hourlong holiday special, “A Legendary Christmas With John and Chrissy,” will broadcast immediately after it.

The rest of the “Chicago” franchise — “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Med” — is also taking the night off from airing new episodes. They’ll all return next week.

Season 7, episode 9 of “Chicago Fire” airs on NBC on Dec. 5 at 9 p.m. EST.
