The AFC playoff seeds are set, and as has been the expectation for a few weeks, the road to the Super Bowl will go through Kansas City. That means the second-seeded New England Patriots might need to win a game at Arrowhead Stadium to make it to their third straight Super Bowl.

Accordingly, oddsmakers favor the Chiefs to make it to Atlanta, but only slightly. The Chiefs have 7/4 odds to advance to the Super Bowl, according to Vegas Insider. The Patriots are the runner-up in the AFC in that regard, with 9/4 odds.

The Chiefs also have better odds to win the Super Bowl, with 9/2 odds, good for second in the league behind the New Orleans Saints. The Patriots are fourth, with 6/1 odds.

The reasoning for this is clear: The Chiefs are 7-1 at home this season and they have the presumptive league MVP at quarterback. The Patriots have been the class of the AFC since 2001, but this year’s team was 3-5 on the road. All five losses came to teams that missed the playoffs.

Even though the Chiefs have serious concerns on defense, they will be betting favorites over any other AFC contenders at home. They were 9-6-1 against the spread in 2018. The Patriots won the head-to-head matchup between these two teams in the regular season, but it required a field goal in the waning seconds at home.
