A Chinese woman frightened a rapist away by coughing and pretending to have the coronavirus.
The victim was alone in her bedroom in Pingba, on the outskirts of Jingshan, which was a three-hour drive from Wuhan on Friday night when the suspect broke in, The Daily Mail reported.

The suspect, identified as Xiao, 25, was about to attack the woman when out of desperation, she told him that she just returned from Wuhan and was infected, thus her self-imposed quarantine.

In an India Times report, the perfectly healthy woman pretended to cough while she pushed away the suspect who was attempting to squeeze her neck and cover her mouth.

This scared Xiao and left but managed to rob the woman of 3,080 yuan ($441.84) in cash.

The suspect reportedly left his home with no cash and intended to rob but after seeing that the victim was alone in her house, he planned to sexually assault her as well.

On February 5, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in China increased to almost 500 and the confirmed toll in mainland China rose to 450 after the hardest-hit Hubei province reported 65 deaths—which is the largest single-day tally since the first deaths were reported last month.
