Chris Cornell was remembered by his daughter on Father’s Day.

On Sunday, children all over the world let their dads know how much they love them on Father’s Day. One of them was Cornell’s 12-year-old daughter, Toni, who reminisced about the kindness of the Soundgarden and Audioslave musician whom she looked up to.

“Let me start by saying how much I love you and how much you mean to me. You are my idol, someone I’ve always looked up to. You were always there for me. You pushed me forward every day, and you still do,” Toni wrote on Facebook. “I always took what you said to heart. Probably because everything you said was so smart.”

In her emotional letter for her late dad, Toni explained how much time and effort Cornell had put into being a part of their lives despite his busy schedule. The singer would always make time to be with them after his tour, regardless of whether he had traveled from another time zone or not. Cornell was also a sweet and caring dad. Toni recalled how the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer stayed up late when she was sick, sharing that her father cuddled, hugged and kissed her. He never slept until her fever went down and even woke up from time to time to give her medicine.

Toni also praised Cornell’s choices. According to her, it was her dad who introduced her to movies like “Purple Rain” and songs like “The Beautiful Ones,” which she really loves.

“I love you and miss you so, Daddy. You deserve your own day to be celebrated because you are the best dad anyone could ever have. Happy Father’s Day!” Toni concluded her letter for her dad.

Cornell’s friends also noted how much the singer treasured his family. “He was an incredible family man,” a source told People. “He loved all of his children. In the last month, he had just completed a tour for The Promise — he brought his daughter and wife with him…He was an incredible human, an incredible father.”

Cornell died on May 18 by committing suicide. He hanged himself at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel an hour after his concert wrapped up. His representative, Brian Bumbery, described the musician’s death as “sudden and expected,” The Telegraph reported. Cornell’s friends were also shocked to learn about his death because he was reportedly in “great spirits” before his suicide.
