KEY POINTS

  • Chris Paul has a net worth of $120 million
  • He earned $35 million in 2020
  • Paul is the president of the NBA players union since 2013

Chris Paul has a net worth of $120 million and is one of the highest paid NBA players today.

Paul is considered a true point guard in the league. He was drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in 2005 and he wasted no time in proving his worth to the team. Standing only at 6 foot, the former 4th pick overall compensated his lack of height with court smarts and leadership. The team missed the playoffs that year, but it improved the win-loss record. Plus, with Paul winning the Rookie of the Year Award, there was finally a reason for fans to be optimistic for the next coming seasons.

Paul suited up for the Hornets in six seasons and made All-NBA Teams for three years. New Orleans made the postseason thrice with the diminutive guard leading the team. However, in 2011, he was sent to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 3-team trade involving the Los Angeles Lakers and Hornets.

Per Spotrac, the 2-time Olympic Men’s Senior Basketball Gold medalist earned almost three times more with the Clippers than when he was at New Orleans. He played seven seasons as a Clipper and earned $114,021,624 while he received $44,204,701 for six years as a Hornet. Rookie contract could be one of the reasons and the bonuses involved in the Clippers deal. In his storied 15-year career, Paul earned $260,957,260 so far.

Also known as CP3, the only thing missing in his trophy case is an NBA title. When the stacked team of Clippers, called Lob City for featuring high leapers such as Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, failed to advance to the NBA finals, Paul was shipped to the Houston Rockets in 2017. His partnership with perennial MVP contender James Harden brought hope to the fans, but he was shipped to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Russell Westbrook after just two seasons.

At 35 years old, time may not be on the side of Paul to win a championship ring. Instead of feeling demoralized after getting traded to a rebuilding team, the cerebral point guard set an example and worked hard. He is leading the young team of OKC in the race to a playoff spot. OKC is invited to the Orlando Bubble where teams are set to play a number of games to determine playoff seedings.

The Lewisville, North Carolina native is close to LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade. They call their group “The Banana Boat Group” after being seen enjoying the summer riding a banana boat while on vacation.

Paul is a true leader on and off the court. According to Forbes, he has been the president of the NBA players union since 2013. Fans can actually thank him for the much-need format change and reinvention of how the All-Star Games are played. Paul suggested the new format because he thought the All-Star games needed to be played with urgency and some level of competitiveness.

Aside from his NBA salary, CP3 makes serious money off endorsement deals. Some of the brands he represented in the past were State Farms, Beyond Meat, Nike, Panini and Spalding.
