• John Stones has played seven games for City this season
  • He even scored in City's latest UCL win
  • City's next fixture is the Manchester derby on Oct. 2

Manchester City have reportedly suffered an injury setback after their defender John Stones picked up an injury while on international duty.

Stones, who plays for England, limped off the field during their 3-3 draw against Germany in the Nations League on Monday, according to a release from Manchester City.

After stopping an opposition attack, Stones looked to start a counter-attack as he moved forward but then pulled up holding the back of his leg. England medical officials ran to attend to the center-back. Stones did not continue after that in the game.

After being suspended for England's trip to Italy, which ended in a 1-0 loss for the Three Lions at San Siro, Stones was picked for the side's home game against Germany at Wembley. He started the game, alongside Eric Dier and Harry Maguire, at the back of the English defense. However, Stones lasted only 37 minutes on the field before he was replaced by his Manchester City teammate Kyle Walker.

Both England and Manchester City will eagerly wait for Stones' scan reports to establish the extent of the injury. With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, England head coach Gareth Southgate would only hope that Stones recovers quickly.

Stones had been in excellent form for City, filling in at right-back during Kyle Walker's absence. The English defender also scored a goal in City's 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League just before the international break. He has made seven appearances for the Etihad side this season.

The Nations League game against Germany saw young forward Phil Foden earn his 18th cap for England. Earlier it was reported that City were working on offering a lucrative new contract to Foden, which would see the 22-year-old playmaker join the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland as Etihad side's highest-paid players.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish did not feature in England's latest 3-3 draw as he was serving a one-match suspension after getting a yellow card in their weekend loss to Italy.

Manchester City will return to action on Oct. 2 as they host Manchester United in a league derby. City, along with Tottenham Hotspur, are the only two teams to be unbeaten as yet in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign. City are placed second in the league table with 17 points, one behind leaders Arsenal.
