Costco (COST) has announced that it is opening nine new stores in the U.S. and Canada through June.

The new stores are part of the company’s plan to expand its brick-and-mortar locations despite other retailers downsizing their locations amid the pandemic shift to online shopping.

Costco has seen its sales grow exponentially during the pandemic, especially as consumers took advantage of stimulus spending during the early part of the COVID crisis.

The wholesale retailer saw its first-quarter 2022 net sales increase by 16.7% to $49.42 billion, up from $42.35 billion in 2021, as consumers continued to spend at the retailer.

During Costco’s Q1 2022 earnings call, Richard Galanti, the company’s chief financial officer, said the retailer planned to open 27 new stores during the fiscal year, including six relocations, according to a transcript of the call from Seeking Alpha.

Costco released the nine new store openings that would be occurring through June on its website, including two relocations.

Six of the new stores are located in the U.S., with a San Marcos, California, business center location opening in March.

A Riverton, Utah, store would be opening in May, and stores in St. Augustine, Florida; College Station, Texas; and Murrieta, California; are planned to open in June.

A Salem, Oregon, store will also be relocated, Costco said.

In Canada, a new store will be coming to N Oshawa, Ontario, in June, with a business center location opening up in Anjou, Quebec, also in June.

A store relocation also happened in Kelowna, British Columbia, in February, Costco said.

At the end of 2021, Costco opened new U.S. stores in South Windsor, Connecticut, and Garner, North Carolina, in November, while two international locations were also opened in Pontault Combault, France, in November and Bilbao, Spain, in December.

Costco currently has stores in every state of the U.S. except Rhode Island, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

As of Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. EST, shares of Costco were trading at $531.97, up $9.04, or 1.73%.
