As several sporting events are already making steps in coping up with the COVID-19 threat, a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo in Juventus tested positive for the said disease.

Reports have surfaced that Juventus FC defender Daniele Rugani is one of the new confirmed cases in Italy after testing positive for Coronavirus. The footballer is believed to have acquired the disease when they played a team that was exposed to the virus.

A post published by The Sun said that the 25-year old got the virus when Juve was with an unnamed Serie C team that is infected by COVID-19. He is also the first player from the football club who tested positive for the said virus.

“The footballer, Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Coronavirus-COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic. Juventus Football Club is currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him,” Juventus said in a statement confirming the news.

The Italian National Football Team mainstay is in his fifth year with Juventus has played seven games for the team this season. Due to the virus, Serie A season is on the verge of being canceled as a precautionary measure per NBC Sports. He even shared a group photo on his social media after their game against Inter Milan over the weekend, where they won 2-0 and bring the club to the top spot.

The team’s next game would be on March 17 for a Champions League match-up against Olympique Lyonnais. “Juventus have confirmed to us that we will play on Tuesday night behind closed doors in Turin,” team president Jean-Michel Aulas told French newspaper L’Équipe about the current situation per Independent.

Italy Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced that the entire country will be placed in lockdown to avoid further spreading of the virus. The country is considered to be the worst country that was hit by the virus outside of China.
