  • Ronaldo has scored 12 goals in 10 games this season
  • Messi has managed only 7 goals in 14 games in 2020-21

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, took to social media Wednesday to heap praise on her brother, but the post also turned out to be a dig at Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo scored in Juventus’ 3-0 win over Messi-led Barcelona at Camp Nou in their 2020-21 Champions League clash Tuesday. It was for the first time in over two years that Ronaldo and Messi faced off on the pitch since the Portuguese’s Real Madrid exit in the summer of 2018. It was Ronaldo, who scored a brace and had a memorable night at Camp Nou in Barcelona.

After Juventus’ win over Barcelona, which was their final Group fixture of this season’s tournament, Ronaldo’s sister Elma took to Instagram to praise her brother in a cheeky post, mocking the Barcelona skipper Messi.

"My king. Greatest of all time. Pride of my life," wrote Elma along with a drawing of Messi bowing down to Ronaldo.

After the game in Barcelona on Tuesday, Ronaldo was asked about his relationship with Messi in a post-match interview. The former Real Madrid superstar said he had a cordial relationship with the Barcelona skipper and never looked at the Argentinean as a "rival".

"I never saw him (Messi) as a rival. He always tried the best for his team and I tried the best for mine. I always got on well with him. I am sure he will say the same if you ask him. I have always had a cordial relationship with him. As I have said before, for 12, 13, 14 years [I have been] sharing prizes with him. But we know in football people always look for a rivalry to create more excitement," Ronaldo said.

Before the Tuesday game, Ronaldo had never scored against Barcelona in the Champions League, having played against them five times.

"Barcelona are going through a difficult time, but it is still Barcelona. The truth is that we are very happy, we knew it was an almost impossible mission, it was a complicated mission and we played well. The key was to get into the game well, we scored two early and from there we believed it was possible," added Ronaldo.
