After a disappointing 2019 campaign, there is some optimism regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ chances in the 2020 NFL season. Only a handful of teams in the NFC are given a better chance to win Super Bowl LV in February 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs are favored to repeat as Super Bowl champions. The San Francisco 49ers have the best odds in the NFC, following their loss to Patrick Mahomes and Co. Multiple sportsbooks give Dallas the third-best odds in the conference, trailing only the 49ers and New Orleans Saints.

The Cowboys have 12/1 Super Bowl odds at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, putting them fifth overall and ahead of the New England Patriots. FanDuel Sportsbook gives Dallas 17/1 Super Bowl odds.

The NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles have 20/1 Super Bowl odds at the Westgate and 17/1 odds at FanDuel.

Despite finishing with an 8-8 record and out of the playoffs, the Cowboys had the No.1 ranked offense this past season. Dak Prescott was second in passing yards and Ezekiel Elliott finished fourth in rushing yards.

Dallas was ranked ninth in total defense. The Cowboys suffered four losses by four points or fewer.

Free agency doesn’t officially start until March 18. Dallas has already made one major change, replacing head coach Jason Garrett with Mike McCarthy. McCarthy led the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl championship in 2011.

The Cowboys have decisions to make regarding major free agents, including their starting quarterback. Prescott and Dallas have not been able to come to an agreement on a new contract.

Prescott appears almost certain to return to the Cowboys in 2020. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it looks “inevitable” that Dallas will use the franchise tag on Prescott. Doing so would give Prescott a one-year deal worth around $33 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys and Prescott can continue to negotiate a long-term contract if the quarterback is tagged in March.

Prescott has a 40-24 record in four seasons as Dallas’ starter. He arguably had his best season in 2019, throwing for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 99.7 passer rating.
