The Season 22 competition on “Dancing With the Stars” was fierce. In fact, it was one of most competitive installments to date. But out of all the talented competitors, only one couple was crowned king and queen of the ballroom during the show’s anticipated finale on ABC.

Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd earned the title of Season 22 champions Tuesday night. However, the finale concluded before Nyle, the first deaf dancer to win the Mirror Ball trophy, could share his thoughts on taking home the sparkling statue. Luckily for fans of DiMarco and Murgatroyd — who redefined what it is to dance — the pair spoke about their two-stepping experience Wednesday during a segment on “Good Morning America.”

Murgatroyd, who is now a two-time “DWTS” champion, began by saying that Season 22 was unlike any other season she competed on. “This whole journey has just been so special. Nyle coming on this show with all the courage in the world … he’s fearless. I’ll take that with me for the rest of my life,” she said.

Nyle also had a few things to say about the Season 22 finale — like discussing the emotional moment he had when judge Carrie Ann Inaba critiqued his fuse routine through sign language.

“It was really very touching,” he stated. “She actually took the time to learn sign language, and you don’t really see that often in this world. It really touched me.”
