KEY POINTS

  • Fabio Carvalho is contracted with Fulham until 2022 summer
  • He has scored seven goals in the underway season
  • Carvalho made his first-team debut during the 2020-21 season

Fulham winger Fabio Carvalho reportedly wants to join Liverpool FC ahead of the 2022 summer market.

Carvalho, who has less than six months left on his contract, is being chased by several clubs, including Liverpool and FC Barcelona. Carvalho is "attracted" by the project under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and the Reds consider him a "top one for the future," according to Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in transfer markets.

Liverpool have submitted a bid worth $7 million to Fulham ahead of the deadline day (Monday) of the January transfer window, said The Times journalist Paul Joyce. However, International Business Times could not verify it independently.

Barcelona are set to compete with Liverpool in the race to sign 19-year-old Carvalho, who is one of the most promising wingers at present, according to Fichajes.

Carvalho has netted seven goals and four assists in 18 league appearances for Fulham, which compete in England's second-tier league The Championship.

The teenage winger has been a consistent performer for Fulham in the attacking end of the field as he is averaging 2.1 shots, 1.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in The Championship, stats on whoscored showed.

The Portugal-born winger started his soccer career at Benfica's youth set up before moving to London-based club Balham. Carvalho joined Fulham in 2014. He made his senior debut during the 2020-21 season. So far, he has notched up 23 first-team games.

Carvalho, who also plays as an attacking midfielder, is known to be technically gifted. He can play a critical pass in the attacking end of the pitch and is slowly seen to be transforming himself into a fine finisher in front of the goal.

If Liverpool manage to secure Carvalho, he would be the Reds' second January signing after Porto winger Luis Diaz.

The 25-year-old signed a five-year contract with Liverpool on Sunday and will begin his new life at Anfield after the conclusion of the ongoing international break. Diaz is currently on national duty with the Colombian national side.
