Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel’s relationship has been anything but conventional. The pair, who were introduced to the world on Bravo’s “Southern Charm,” had one child together after only a few brief hookups and welcomed another while they weren’t even together. While many no longer question their antics, co-star Shep Rose says he and the rest of their co-stars had reservations.

In an interview with People magazine, Shep said he had a hard time believing Kathryn was really pregnant for a second time. He told the publication that he and many others on the cast and otherwise believed that the pregnancy was nothing more than a rumor. After it became clear that Kathryn truly was with child, Shep said new doubts surfaced about the baby’s father. He asserted that she had been “dating other people,” which led him to believe another man was the real father of her son, St. Julien Rembert Ravenel.

“I didn’t believe it. Nobody did. I heard it was a rumor,” Shep said. “I don’t know what either of them were thinking, but my first thought was: ‘Is it his baby?’ That was all of our thoughts, because they weren’t dating at the time and she was dating other people.”

Kathryn and Thomas have had their fair share of ups and downs. The young mother of two appeared solo in April on “Watch What Happens Live,” where she opened up about the status of their tumultuous relationship to host Andy Cohen. Kathryn said dealing with Thomas has “not been fun,” adding that there is still some “questionable behavior” on his part. She said that in addition to his refusal to commit to her, Thomas has left her and their children without electricity, heating, air conditioning and “doesn’t even ask me if I’m OK.”

Prior to her appearance on the show, during which she made some lofty claims about the father of her children, Thomas hurled a few insults of his own on social media. In February the former politician told followers she had been keeping their kids from him despite his paying child support. He added that he was “not using the power of the purse” to control Kathryn, though he is worth far more than she is. He claimed that Kathryn’s behavior was ruthless and a “detriment” to their kids.

Neither Thomas nor Kathryn has responded to questions about the paternity of their son. Tune in to “Southern Charm” Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo for more.
