Christopher Nolan finally addressed those who doubt about his decision to cast Harry Styles in “Dunkirk.”

Nolan stressed that he didn’t know Styles was famous before he auditioned for a role in “Dunkirk.” According to the director, the role was given to the One Direction singer because he has the talent.

“As a director, I have to trust my instincts, my ability to figure out who’s the right guy for the part. I’m not too worried about baggage,” Nolan, 46, told Entertainment Tonight. “I was new to Harry. I mean, I’ve heard his name from my kids, but I wasn’t really familiar with him… What I was seeing [when he auditioned] was a very charismatic guy who clearly had a truthfulness and a subtlety in his ability to perform as a film actor.”

Nolan also recalled that casting Heath Ledger as the Joker in “The Dark Knight” raised many eyebrows then and a number commented on it. However, he decided to pursue it and opted to trust his instincts. For him, Harry is perfect for his role in “Dunkirk.”

“What I’m hoping for, when people see the film, is I’m hopeful that they won’t miss what he’s done, because it’s very subtle, very truthful and real,” Nolan further explained. The director added that he didn’t give Styles any flashing thing to do, but the important thing is that the singer gave what was asked of him.

Nolan complimented the One Direction heartthrob for pulling off his role with “incredible grace and reality.” According to him, Styles never let his being a celebrity affect his ego on set. He was very committed to filming and was open to learning new things from the most experienced people. “I think he’s done an incredible job on the film and I’m really excited to show it to people,” Nolan explained.

Meanwhile, Styles is very happy to be part of the film, especially that he is a huge fan of Nolan. He was all praises to the director and didn’t want to disappoint him. “Chris knows what he wants and he’s such an amazing director that you definitely feel like you don’t want to let him down. I definitely feel like that’s definitely a big part of the nerves,” Styles said about the “Dunkirk” director, Daily Mail reported.

In other news, Styles will be having a tour next year. He just released his solo debut album last May and in a recent Instagram post, he shared a photo with the words, “I can’t wait to see you…” which the singer he captioned with “//2018.TOUR//.”
