AT&T announced DirecTV Now its new streaming TV service at an event held on Monday in New York City. DirecTV Now, which launched Nov. 30, competes with Sling TV and Sony’s PlayStation Vue, both of which offer similar streaming video packages. We’ve decided to compare DirecTV Now Vs. DirecTV Now Channel List

To start, AT&T will offer the “Go Big” plan offers 100+ channels for $35 per month.

DirecTV Now “Just Right” plan offers 80+ channels for $50 per month. The “Gotta Have It” plan offers 120+ channels for $70 per month. DirecTV Now’s “Gotta Have It Plan” channel list includes everything in “Go Big” plus Boomerang, Chiller, Cloo, El Rey Network, Justice Central, eight Starz Encore channels (Action, Black, East, Family, Classic, Suspense, West, Westerns) and Univision Deportes Network.

Cinemax and HBO can be added for $5 a month, which is about $10 per month cheaper than most streaming TV services.

DirecTV Now features

DirecTV Now allows customers to watch up to two streams simultaneously. Unfortunately, the first iteration of DirecTV Now won’t include a cloud DVR functionality like the PlayStation Vue - or even the option to pause what you’re currently watching - at launch. AT&T is looking to add a “full DVR” component to DirecTV Now sometime next year.

DirecTV Now supported devices

Just like its competition, DirecTV Now’s app works on many platforms. At launch, DirecTV Now supports Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV devices, Android phones, iPhones and iPads, Vizio and LeEco smart TVs and PCs and Macs with Web browsers. Support for Roku and Amazon Fire tablets will be coming in early 2017.

PlayStation Vue Channel List

When it comes to PlayStation Vue, consumers can choose from one of three multi-channel plans starting at $29.99 per month. All plans include a seven-day free trial for first time subscribers. PlayStation’s “Ultra” plan includes HBO and Showtime, plus 100+ channels from Elite which is available for $64.99 or $74.99 depending on your location. You can also subscribe to HBO and Cinemax as standalone channels via PlayStation for $15 each per month.

PlayStation Vue includes all four major broadcast networks as well as AMC, CNN, Discovery, Disney, Food Network and HGTV. Though, depending on where you live, PlayStation Vue doesn’t include ABC and CBS affiliates.

PlayStation Vue Features

My Shows: You can easily add your favorites to “My Shows” and automatically save and store newly aired episodes to the cloud for up to 28 days. You can add content to “My Shows” by selecting the [+], or hitting R1 on PlayStation consoles.

Explore: When you don’t know what TV show to watch, “Explore” will be the first place to start. Adaptive filters will help you discover programming, you can sort by genre, rating, length and more. You can find the Explore tool in the toolbar on the top of the Home screen.

Second Screen Viewing: Once you have signed up for PlayStation Vue, you can take advantage of second viewing of selection channels in and out of the home by using PlayStation Vue’s mobile app. In addition, you can cast directly to your TV via Chromecast, and use a variety of devices.

PlayStation Vue Supported Devices

PlayStation Vue service is accessible through PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, as well as iPad, iPhone and through the PlayStation Vue mobile app. Google Chromecast is also supported via compatible iOS devices. PlayStation recently announced that its PlayStation Vue television service is available on Apple TV, which allows PlayStation Vue subscribers to watch live TV on Apple’s set top box. Just like PlayStation Vue, you can subscribe to HBO or Cinemax via SlingTV for $15 each per month.

On Now: If your kids want to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before you leave for work, the Recommend feature will learn this habit and will eventually bring Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to the top of the guide, as well as other similar shows each morning. Or if you like to watch SportsCenter at 6pm when you’re home from work; the Recommend ribbon will learn that too; and show you other sports airing at the same time.

TV SHOWS: Worried about missing an episode of the Real Housewives of New Jersey ? You’ll be able to see all of the available live and on-demand episodes of your favorite show in one place. You can easily filter down to a single show collection, and you will be able to filter featured content or trending shows.

SlingTV’s compatible devices include, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV devices, Android phones, iPhones and iPads and gaming consoles like Microsoft Xbox One.

When it comes to comparing DirecTV Now, PlayStation Vue and SlingTV it’s a pretty close race. Though it really comes down to what channels your family likes to watch, what premium channels you want to add on and the price you’re looking to spend per month.
