Japan's NTT DoCoMo Inc. and Atlanta-based AT&T Inc.'s wireless unit will work together to build a high-speed mobile network throughout Hawaii, catering to Japanese tourists.

DoCoMo, Japan's biggest mobile phone operator, would provide AT&T technical and financial support worth up to $24 million to build a third-generation mobile network based on W-CDMA technology, DoCoMo said on Thursday.

DoCoMo eyes growing roaming revenues from mobile phone users taking their phones abroad. Its shares closed up 0.5 percent at 185,000 yen, while home rivals KDDI Corp. fell 0.2 percent and Softbank Corp. fell 0.7 percent.
