Few details about “Doctor Strange 2” have been announced so far. The sequel is expected to have a completely different look and feel, and the choice of the director suggests that it will have elements of horror in it.

Scott Derrickson is helming the sequel. After directing movies like “Sinister” and “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” Screen Rant noted that he is the “right man for the job” if Marvel wants to introduce elements of horror in the upcoming film.

The title of the sequel is “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” What will the caped superhero find in the other dimensions? Given the kind of films the director has worked on, the superhero and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) may have to face their inner demons and encounter some scary experiences in a journey that may change them forever.

There may be some scope for levity in the movie because Wong (Benedict Wong) will be returning. However, the audience should be prepared to watch a scary movie when they enter the theaters.

One major character who is not yet confirmed but is expected to return in “Doctor Strange 2” is Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). According to Screen Rant the character may appear briefly as a reluctant ally who will help Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the movie may set him up as a major villain for the third installment.

Mordo is already on a dark path after being disillusioned by the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) after seeing her using powers absorbed from the Dark Dimension. He was last seen absorbing the magical powers of the people who he believed were misusing their powers.

“Doctor Strange 2” is set to be released on May 7, 2021. The script has been written by Jade Halley Bartlett, Collider reported. Bartlett previously wrote the script for the horror movie “The Turning.”
