Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has expanded its initial recall from May of the Dodge Ram pickup truck for a tailgate issue that could cause it to open while driving.

The recall affects an additional 693,128 pickup trucks, including certain 2015 to 2017 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models that are equipped with an eight-foot bed and a power-locking tailgate. The automaker has also recalled all 2013 to 2014 and 2018 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models that were built before April 1, 2018, with a six- or eight-foot bed and power-locking tailgate.

The issue with the tailgate stems from an actuator limiter tab that could fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open when the vehicle is in operation.

To remedy the issue, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said its dealers will repair the tailgate latch free of charge. The company said it will begin notifying truck owners that are part of the expanded recall on Oct. 18.

The recall number is V44.

Shares of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles were up 1.15 percent as of 2:58 p.m. ET on Monday.
