Retired American actress Doris Day celebrates her 95th birthday on April 3, Monday. Until this weekend, the “Pajama Game” star believed she was born in 1924 and would turn 93 this year. However, her birth certificate copy obtained by the Associated Press (AP) revealed the actress was, in fact, born in 1922.

“I’ve always said that age is just a number,” Day said in a statement to the AP. “I have never paid much attention to birthdays, but it’s great to finally know how old I really am!”

The “Calamity Jane” actress has been a longtime animal rights activist and founded the nonprofit Doris Day Animal Foundation in 1978. She said she used her past birthdays as occasion to raise awareness about animal rights, according to the AP. However, this year she will spend her birthday in a low-key affair at her home in Carmel, California, People magazine reported Sunday.

“Doris is in great health and we now learn she’s even closer to being a centenarian. I will not be at all surprised if we’re celebrating her 100th in five more years,” her publicist Charley Cullen Walters told the magazine.

Throughout her career, Day earned an Academy Award nomination for "Pillow Talk" and also won critical acclaim for role in "Midnight Lace" and "Love Me or Leave Me."
