An off-duty police officer was shot in the buttocks during a robbery at an apartment complex in Stone Mountain.

32-year-old veteran officer, Lander Burton, was ambushed by two men while he was ejecting his vehicle Monday night. The two men stole his wallet along with his badge and drove off in what seems to be a Toyota Camry. As the veteran officer tried to defend himself, the robbery elevated to a shooting, and placed him in a critical and stable condition. He was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center and underwent surgery Tuesday morning.

Police claims that the duo probably did not know that their victim Burton was a police officer. As of Tuesday afternoon, the police have arrested a person of interest aged 21. His name and photo has not yet be released until line-up identification has been completed. Charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault are pending. The event happened at the Landmark at Mountain View complex on Green Bark Circle West as Burton was visiting a friend. Police are still trying to find the second suspect.
