As Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak refused to quit before September's presidential election, the protests in Cairo flared up again, sweeping away tourists from many Egyptian tourist spots where some of the world’s greatest works of art, antiquities, rich history and tales of ancient civilizations along River Nile rest in peace.

Egypt’s economic situation has gotten bad enough that a religious website presented a proposal to the country's Finance Ministry to rent out the nation’s “key monuments, including the pyramids of Giza.” According to the proposal, the pyramids, the Sphinx, and the temples of Luxor could be rented out to international tourism companies for three to five years, thus generating an estimated $200 billion for Egypt.
