KEY POINTS

  • Man Utd defeated Sheriff 2-0 in their Europa meeting
  • Ronaldo and Sancho scored for the Red Devils
  • Sancho has now netted three goals this season for Man Utd

Erik ten Hag has praised Jadon Sancho after Manchester United's latest 2-0 win. He, however, said there is "much more room for improvement" for the English player.

Ten Hag's comments came after Sancho scored in Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Moldavian club Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday. The other goal was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, who is playing his very first season in the second-tier European competition.

"I'm really pleased [for Jadon], another goal, and he scored already many goals in his pre-season, and I think he has three in the season. I think Jadon has so much has potential. First he invested a lot and is on his way to getting really fit. It is a process, he scores goal and is in the moment in the season where he is more secure," Ten Hag said after the game.

Sancho has now netted three goals in eight games for Manchester United in the ongoing campaign, including two in the Premier League.

"He's doing well. But I think there's much more room for improvement for him, because he has so many skills. Bring him on the pitch when he has that belief, and he can improve even more," said Ten Hag, according to ESPN.

After scoring Manchester United's opening goal against Sheriff at Zimbru Stadium, Sancho celebrated by removing one of his shin pads and holding it in the air. Later, a video showing a fan gifting Sancho shin pads went viral on social media.

In a post-match interview, Sancho revealed he wanted to show the youngster that he had worn his gift.

"He asked me to wear them and I said 'yeah, no problem. It was a little gesture from me to show I was wearing the shin pads he gave me," Sancho was quoted by Goal.com.

The Red Devils started the 2022-23 Europa League campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at Old Trafford last week.

"Starting the campaign with a defeat was an upsetting result, so we knew that today was a must-win. I am very delighted [with the goal]. Again, the most important thing was the three points and I will have to keep working hard for the team," Sancho said in an interview Thursday.

After the international break, Manchester United have a big derby game against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Oct. 2.
