Erik ten Hag has reportedly angered some Manchester United players by allowing captain Harry Maguire to go on vacation in Portugal.

Maguire has been under the radar for some time now for his poor performances for England and Manchester United. While the club's previous bosses, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, continued to keep Maguire in the team, Ten Hag was not so merciful. He has replaced Maguire with new summer signing Lisandro Martinez at Red Devils' center back.

Earlier this week, when Manchester United flew down to Cyprus to take on Omonia in the Europa League, Maguire was in Portugal playing golf in a resort. Ten Hag has allowed the English defender to take some time off to clear his head, according to soccer outlet Teamtalk.

Maguire ended the international break with an injury and missed Manchester United's last two games: a 6-3 loss to Manchester City and a 2-1 win over Everton.

However, Ten Hag's decision to let Maguire recover in Portugal during the season has not gone well with some Manchester United players.

"Harry was given permission to travel to Portugal to continue his rehabilitation while the rest of the squad was in Cyprus, allowing him to benefit from the same warm weather conditions. Harry was accompanied by a MU physio and has been working hard on his recovery. He is due back at Carrington on Sunday," an unnamed source close to the club said in an interview.

The decision left players displeased because Ten Hag had previously asked all injured players to remain at the club's Carrington training base and return to fitness there.

Out of the eight games in the 2022-23 Premier League, Maguire was featured in just three, while he remained as an unused substitute in three straight games. With their latest win over Everton, the Red Devils have climbed to fifth place in the league table with 15 points.

After conceding just five minutes after the kick-off whistle at Goodison Park, Antony netted the equalizer for Manchester United before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner. The goal also marked Ronaldo's 700th goal at club level.

Meanwhile, Antony, who moved from Ajax to Manchester United in the summer, became the first Red Devils player to score in each of his first three appearances in the Premier League for the club, according to ESPN.

Manchester United's next game is a home fixture against Omonia at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday. Following this, they will host Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday.
