KEY POINTS

  • Man City defeated Wolves 3-0 on Sunday
  • City are currently placed second in the league table
  • Haaland has netted 31 goals so far this season

Erling Haaland on Sunday clinched a few more records after registering yet another hat-trick in the ongoing Premier League season.

Haaland netted three goals in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Wolves at Etihad Stadium, which marked the Norwegian forward's fourth hat-trick of the league season. Only Alan Shearer (5 in 1995-96) has scored more Premier League hat-tricks in a single season than Haaland, according to Opta Joe.

Haaland has now taken his goals tally to 25 goals in 19 league matches – the tally is higher than the last four Golden Boot winners. Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min scored 23 goals each in the previous seasons.

Haaland, who joined Manchester City last summer from Borussia Dortmund, has scored 31 goals and three assists in 26 matches in all competitions for the Etihad side.

The former Dortmund striker suffered a mini-goal drought recently when he went without a goal or an assist in three consecutive competitive matches. The drought ended when he scored in Manchester City's 4-2 win over Tottenham in the league before netting three goals against Wolves.

With the latest win, City are now five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal in the title race. The Gunners defeated Erik ten Hag's Manchester United 3-2 on Sunday.

In a post-match interview, Guardiola heaped praise on Haaland, saying he was "stable" and was "not stressed much" when his form took a dip.

"The numbers are incredible. He lives 24 hours for his profession, job, passion, love. He's not stressed much when it's going well or going bad. He is stable. He feels the defeats. It's really good," Guardiola told reporters.

"He is not a player who will take the ball 10 metres behind the box. It is not his ability. He has to get the balls delivered as much as possible from the fantastic players around him. The first goal is because he's there. The delivery from Kevin (De Bruyne) is fantastic. Always I believe. We know each other," the Man City boss added.
