KEY POINTS

  • Donny Van de Beek joined Man Utd in the 2020 summer
  • He has made only one Premier League appearance this season
  • He was close to an Everton move this summer

Juventus are reportedly looking to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek in January.

Juventus have been long-time admirers of Van de Beek and the Serie A club's director Federico Cherubini has opened talks with the Dutchman's agent about a possible move during the winter window, reported Italian publication Football Italia.

The Turin club is interested in a loan deal for Van de Beek with an option to buy, said transfer specialist Nicolo Schira, who has a credible record in Italian soccer. He has also claimed that Manchester United's Premier League rivals Newcastle, who were recently taken over by a Saudi Arabia firm, also want to land the player.

Van de Beek, who moved from Ajax to Manchester United in the summer of 2020 for $47 million, has failed to make a regular place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team. The Norwegian boss prefers the likes of Paul Pogba, Fred and Scot McTominay in the central midfield position ahead of 24-year-old. In addition to that, with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Van de Beek is believed to have fallen further down in Solskjaer's pecking order.

The Netherlands national midfielder has made only three appearances in the 2021-22 season for the Red Devils, which includes only six minutes in the Premier League.

It was earlier reported that Van de Beek was close to making a move to Everton in the summer of 2021 on a loan deal. However, Solskjaer convinced the Dutch midfielder to remain at Old Trafford.

"I spoke with the manager about it (the interest from Everton) and the club. They were clear they wanted me to stay here. The manager was really positive about me and he said: 'I need you and I want to keep you here'. Of course, what I see here now at the beginning of the season is difficult, because I didn't play one minute, but he said; 'What I see every day in training, I see a different Donny now,'" Van de Beek had said in an interview.

He has so far played 39 competitive matches for Manchester United, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
