  • Formula One legend Eddie Jordan said Alain Prost is F1's GOAT not Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna
  • Jordan said Schumacher lets him down in one area
  • Jordan claims Senna's legacy was more of a love affair than winning

A Formula One legend revealed why he thinks iconic F1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna are not the greatest of all time.

Jordan Grand Prix founder and owner Eddie Jordan recently spoke to “ Off The Ball” about the greatest driver he has ever seen. To everybody’s surprise, neither Senna nor the great Schumacher made his list. Instead, Jordan thinks that four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost was the best to ever hit the race track.

Jordan competed as a constructor from 1991 to 2005. He won the Irish Kart Championship in 1971 before moving to Formula Ford in 1974. Throughout his driving and business management career, he has witnessed the other sides of the greatest drivers from all over the world.

According to Jordan, whenever he reflects on Schumacher and Senna’s stellar careers, he always end up realizing Prost is the greatest of all time.

“If you put them all together and you're asking me who do I think was the best driver? Of course Michael had outstanding talent, but so had Senna. It's always a really difficult call to know which of the two. I'm usually one who causes some consternation or chaos with this because I believe neither of those drivers were the best I've driven against or been part of. I always come back to Alain Prost.” Jordan explained.

The motorsport boss and pundit further revealed that unlike some of the biggest names in Formula One, Prost was a team player, something that Schumacher lacked in his career.

Jordan claims that in every “Schumi” contract he has reviewed, there’s always a clause that stated all the other racers will only play a supporting role to the F1 icon.

"That one area was that in every contract, whether I signed with Irvine, Barrichello or whoever they were - there was a clause there that they always had to play second-fiddle to Michael Schumacher,” Jordan revealed.

As for Senna, Jordan said that he wanted the Brazilian to be best but he couldn’t. According to the 72-year-old, Senna’s legacy was more of a “love affair” than winning. He suggested that people like to think Senna is the best because of his unique charisma.

"I just wish for my own belief I want him to be the best, but I can't. I just feel, somebody who had the most unbelievable natural talent, in a similar sort of level to Senna. People had more of a love-affair about Senna because they wanted to believe he was the best,” Jordan said.
