Bella Thorne’s new show isn’t going to be quite as bloody as her last TV role. The “Scream” actress’ will make her return to the small screen in Freeform’s “Famous in Love.” The first trailer for the drama makes it clear that Thorne will be exercising her dramatic acting chops.

The first-look video shows Thorne’s character Paige starting off as a nerdy, rambling wannabe actress who gets cast in a Hollywood blockbuster on her first audition. But happily ever after isn’t anywhere in sight for this leading lady. Soon enough, Paige is famous, and it looks like her relationships will only get more difficult with all the new attention she is getting. Watch part of the promo video below:

“Famous in Love” follows Paige’s rise to fame and her love triangle with her two co-stars. There is Rainer (Carter Jenkins), the son of Hollywood actors and bad boy Jordan (Keith Powers). The two men have a complicated history before Paige arrives, and their chemistry with her only makes the tension between them worse.

However, Paige’s problems aren’t just deciding which celebrity to date. Tangey (Pepi Sonuga) was the last Hollywood It Girl involved with both Rainer and Jordan, and Paige starts to unravel the mystery behind Tangey’s disappearance.

The series, based on the book by Rebecca Serle, will be executive produced by “Pretty Little Liars” showrunner Marlene King, so fans know to expect serious drama. However, Thorne will also have creative input. For the second time in her career, she is taking on the role of producer. But it wasn’t just the behind-the-scenes work that attracted Thorne to the role.

“When I read the book [by Rebecca Serle] originally — it was a long time ago — I thought it was cool that we show Hollywood [for] what it is,” Thorne told Moviefone. “People think it’s so glamorous, and it’s so perfect and everybody is so nice. And it’s not. It’s not that perfect. So it’s cool when you’re able to go behind and you know, show everything to everyone. So I’m glad to get to kind of open up that world.”

Freeform ordered “Famous in Love” to series earlier this month. Jesse Henderson, Georgie Flores, Niki Koss, Perrey Reeves and Mark Valley also star in the show. A premiere date has not been announced.
