John Cena has joined the cast in “Fast and Furious 9.” In a recent interview, the wrestler turned actor expressed his excitement for the film and also thanked Vin Diesel for “orchestrating” a chance for him to star in the film.

Very little is currently known about Cena’s role in the new film. Even the name of his character has been kept under wraps. Although the actor isn’t allowed to talk about his role in the film, he did share his excitement for the film in an interview with Us Weekly.

“I’m super excited,” Cena told the media outlet.

The actor also thanked Diesel for “orchestrating” his role in the film by puting the word out on Instagram. Diesel had previously shared a video on Instagram, where he talked about how it feels like his late friend Paul Walker, who he lovingly calls Pablo, has sent him “another soldier in the fight for truth.”

In the video, Diesel said that he is constantly thinking about making something that is iconic and deserving of his fans’ loyalty. The “soldier” that Diesel was talking about was Cena, who he introduced as the latest cast member of “Fast and Furious 9” in the same video.

Cena apparently went to the gym to discuss the possibility of starring in the upcoming film. Shortly after the video was released, Universal Pictures confirmed that Cena has been cast in the film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cena described himself as a “car guy,” which is what the franchise is primarily based on. The actor shared his appreciation for the team for building a global franchise that has “larger-than-life action,” but he also pointed out that the films from the franchise, despite their focus on the action, also make sure that the films are about the story and the narrative.

“Fast and Furious 9” is being directed by Justin Lin. The film will be released on May 22, 2020.
