In a horrific incident, a father killed his son after he refused to wear a face mask while stepping out of their home amid the COVID-19 lockdown. The incident took place Saturday in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal.

Local media reported that the father, identified as Bansidhar Mallick, strangulated his son with a cloth strap. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Shirsendu Mallick, died on the spot. The 78-year-old father surrendered himself to the police the day of the incident.

He admitted to killing his son in a fit of rage as he refused to put the mask on while stepping out of their home.

“As soon as the person surrendered before the police, Officer-in-Charge of Shyampukur Police Station with other officers rushed to the spot and found the son lying dead. The body has been removed and sent to hospital for further formalities. A murder case is being initiated and an investigation is underway,” a senior official of Kolkata Police told local media.

According to Republic World, authorities conducted an investigation and found that the father and son did not share cordial relations and were involved in frequent arguments. The deceased son was unemployed due to his physical disability since childhood.

A lockdown is in place in several countries as the number of COVID-19 cases crossed the 2 million mark worldwide. Some countries have made it mandatory for individuals to wear a face mask while stepping out of the home.

Earlier this month, a father shot his teenage son after the two got into an argument over a glass of milk. The incident took place in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to local reports, the father got angry at the son after he received a half-filled glass of milk. The 55-year-old man complained that his son had taken more milk for himself. The father fired shots at his son and brother later turning the gun towards himself. While the teenage son and the accused father died at the scene, the brother was rushed to the hospital and was said to be in a stable condition.
