While fans eagerly await the upcoming showdown between Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Zoom (Teddy Sears) on “The Flash” Season 2, one previously deceased character on the show is angling for a comeback. In a series where it’s very hard for characters that have been killed off to stay dead, the original Firestorm says he’s poised to make a return to the CW show.

Speaking at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, Washington, over the weekend, actor Robbie Amell, who played Ronnie Raymond on “The Flash” in Season 1, mentioned that he will not return in Season 2. Apparently, the final episodes have already finished filming. However, he did meet with an executive producer to discuss spoilers, future plotlines and more.

“There were a lot of really big storylines to tie up and I had dinner with [EP] Greg Berlanti the other night and I asked him for all the spoilers and he gave them to me, and you guys are in for one incredible final stretch of Season 2,” Amell told the crowd, according to CinemaBlend. “But I would love to go back. I told him: ‘Whenever I’m available, whenever you want me, I’m there.”

While there are no immediate plans to bring Ronnie Raymond back into the fold, the fact that he’s in discussions for possible Season 3 arcs could prove significant to the future of “The Flash.” As fans will know, Raymond sacrificed his life in the first episode of Season 2 in order to close the singularity that Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) created while escaping 2015. Ronnie’s death carried an emotional weight that set the tone for the remainder of Season 2, with the characters all being very aware of the life or death stakes of their work for the first time. However, with him dead on the show, how in the world would a return for Ronnie Raymond work?

Since his passing, the character has even been replaced by Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh) as the second half of the Firestorm matrix on “Legends of Tomorrow.” While Amell is clearly setting himself up for a return to the show following his demise, ScreenRant reports that he mentioned it wouldn’t be at the expense of the new Firestorm.

“I’ve had a lot of fun playing Ronnie, so even if there were a version of my character without superpowers, I would love to go back and play that,” he said. “The Firestorm stuff is really fun to do and fun to see on TV, but to ground something as a real person is nice for the acting side of things.”

Fans may remember that Amell reprised his role somewhat in the two-part Season 2 arc “Welcome to Earth-2” and “Escape from Earth-2.” However, that didn’t require the show to write Ronnie Raymond back into the fold. Instead, Amell played his doppelganger from an alternate universe — an evil one at that.

With “The Flash” officially renewed for Season 3, it’s possible that Ronnie Raymond could return from the grave yet again and become an active member of Team Flash. However, the answer as to how and why he returns after appearing to die in a cataclysmic event remains to be seen.
