Tarek El Moussa has opened up about his experience with fatherhood.

The “Flip or Flop” star is a doting dad to his two children with ex-wife Christina El Moussa. After their split, the two continue to co-parent their kids. And on Thursday, Tarek penned an emotional letter about his journey as a father so far.

“Well...my kids go home today and I’m sitting in my car on set as I write this. Being a dad is not easy...it takes love, hard work, patience and the understanding that everything you do today around your children will affect them for the rest of their lives,” he wrote on Instagram.

Tarek added that his goal in life is to be the best dad and give his children the best life. “My number one goal in life that I WILL accomplish is being the best dad, friend and mentor to my children. I just love them so much and I want them to live the best life ever!” he said.

Posted along with his note was an image showing the description of the word dad as a father, guardian, protector, teacher, mentor and coach.

Earlier this month, Tarek had a photoshoot with his two kids on a yatch. In one photo, he expressed his joy over being a dad to 6-year-old Taylor and 23-month-old Brayden, saying: “Being a father to these two amazing kids is the best feeling in the world!!”

In a clip from the same pictorial, he also revealed that it was difficult to get Brayden to focus, so the photographers had to make weird noises just to get his youngest child to look toward the cameras.

In January, Tarek filed for divorce from his estranged wife after seven years of marriage. But while Tarek is concentrating on fatherhood, his ex has already started dating. Christina spent her 34th birthday with new boyfriend Doug Spedding. The couple was even spotted sharing a kiss outside Montage Hotel before they headed out for dinner to celebrate her birthday.

Despite their split, Tarek and Christina have set aside their differences and always make their children their priority. “For the kids, no matter what — even if I wanted to, which I don’t — I couldn’t hate my ex-wife, well almost ex-wife,” he told Andy Cohen in an interview in June (via People). “When we go to school activities, sporting events, we will sit right next to each other.”
