With the form that Novak Djokovic is in, and with Rafael Nadal being touted as the one to stop him, many have incredibly forgotten a 16-time grand slam champion in Roger Federer.

A radiant Federer crushed Maxime Teixeira in the second round of the French Open, reminding many of his class, grace and all round ability.

Frenchman Teixeira had little chance as Federer wrapped up matters within an hour and 24 minutes with a 6-3 6-0 6-2 win.

Teixeira's only chance came when he broke Fed early on, but once the Swiss found his rhythm, there was nothing he could do to stop the third seed.

Federer will now face Janko Tipsarevic in the third round after the Serbian cruised against Pere Riba with a 6-1 6-3 6-0 win.

Elsewhere, last year's French Open finalist Sam Stosur beat Simona Halep 6-0 6-2 to advance into round three.
