A daytime star on ABC is headed to primetime. “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard, who plays mobster Sonny Corinthos, will guest star on an episode of “Castle” Season 8 later this year.

Benard will appear in episode 19, TVLine reports, and the hour won’t involve a dead body for once. Alan Masters (Jonathan Silverman) survives an attempted murder and helps Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) find his would-be killer.

Unfortunately, no details about Benard’s role in the drama have been revealed. However, he did reveal that he worked with both Fillion and Silverman and said he had a great time with them.

It sounds like he’ll only be in one episode, so Sonny won’t be gone from Port Charles for long. Benard has been with the soap opera since 1993, but every so often he finds time to take another role. However, he may use his short break to avoid playing the bad guy. In another post, the actor hinted that he wouldn’t be playing a mobster again. “Love the show," he wrote on Instagram. "Excited to do something different.”

Soap opera fans have had several reasons to tune into “Castle” recently. Fillion brought a handful of his former “One Life to Live” costars to the drama. Kassie DePaiva, Darlene Vogel and Tuc Watkins all guest starred in the Valentine’s Day episode. Fillion will continue to work with actors from his past when “Castle” returns Monday. His former “Firefly” and “Serenity” costar Summer Glau will play a detective.

“Castle” Season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC. “General Hospital” airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for times.
