It looks like Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) are just starting to heat up! “Grey’s Anatomy” has promoted Gianniotti, a newcomer on the ABC medical drama, to a series regular in Season 12.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news Friday that the 26—year-old actor was being bumped up from a recurring character to a series regular. Gianiotti’s character, Andew, is one of Seattle Grace’s new interns. While he’s working on saving lives in the operating room, he successfully managed to romance one of the hospital’s most eligible bachelorette’s, Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister, Maggie. The two seemed to really hit it off – except for the fact that the doctor seemed embarrassed to be hooking up with a lowly intern.

When “Grey’s Anatomy” fans last left them, they finally confessed that they had feelings for each other. However, they also made a pact to keep things professional at work. But that doesn’t mean that their relationship will be smooth sailing. As McCreary told Wetpaint in September, her character is “not totally open to being committed to another person.”

“So I think it’ll be interesting to watch Maggie go through the growing pains of being with someone who demands her attention in the way that she gives it to her profession, or demands her love in a way that she’s not used to giving it to anything other than work,” the actress explained.

“Grey’s Anatomy” has been on hiatus since November. New episodes of Season 12 resume on Thursday, Feb. 11.
