Blake Shelton has opened up about how his girlfriend Gwen Stefani helped him cope after his separation with Miranda Lambert. In a recent interview with Country Countdown USA, Shelton also spoke about how the two bonded after their respective marriages broke down.

Just months after announcing divorce with Lambert, Shelton was rumored to be in a relationship with Stefani. However, he and Stefani, who separated from Gavin Rossdale, went public with their relationship in November last year.

“At the time, when you go through what I went through with my divorce, you never know when it’s the right time to step out and say I’ve started seeing someone,” Shelton told Country Countdown USA, according to Us Weekly.

“But what I found out, because it wasn’t someone from my hometown, it was Gwen Stefani that I was beginning to have this relationship with. There was no hiding it. If I glance her way, it’s the cover of magazines. If I could have kept my personal life private, I would have. Since I can’t, I might as well let people in on the truth,” the “Sangria” singer said.

“Of all the people, she was the last person I expected to step out of the crowd and be the one to have my back, and be there and be the shoulder and be the one to fight that fight with me, getting back on my feet, and out of nowhere, there she was,” he added.

The two have managed to stay in headlines either over their relationship or over Stefani’s pregnancy rumors. Recently, it was reported that Stefani and Shelton got engaged after the 46-year-old singer was spotted wearing a massive diamond ring. However, Gossip Cop debunked the rumor of their engagement.

Meanwhile, Stefani and Shelton are reportedly planning to “spice up” their performance at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday evening. The couple will reportedly kiss on stage to get people talking about them.

“They have to mix up the performance since people have seen it on 'The Voice' already,” an insider told Hollywood Life.
