‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 3 Spoilers: Synopsis For June 5 Premiere

It’s time to head back to Gilead. “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 3 premieres on Hulu this week, and the streaming platform has released a synopsis for each of the first three episodes. Check out what’s in store for June as she tries to help the resistance.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 2 ended with June (Elisabeth Moss) giving up her chance to escape Gilead. She handed baby Nichole off to Emily (Alexis Bledel) because June knew she couldn’t leave without her eldest daughter, Hannah. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) let June take the baby, and she’ll have a big reaction when she learns that June is letting someone else take care of the little girl.

“June embarks on a bold mission with unexpected consequences,” the Season 3 premiere synopsis reads. “Emily and Nichole make a harrowing journey. The Waterfords reckon with Serena Joy’s choice to send Nichole away.”

When “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 3 premieres Wednesday, it won’t just be one episode released. The first three will be available to binge-watch immediately. The second episode will show June working with new allies and Emily figuring out what to do after getting a ride to the border.

“June helps Marthas with a dangerous task while navigating a relationship with her pious and untrustworthy new walking partner,” the logline reads. “Emily and Luke (O-T Fagbenle) struggle with their altered circumstances.”

Staying in Gilead has consequences. June has to deal with Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), who will learn that his daughter disappeared, and Nick (Max Minghella), who helped her escape. Still, the Commander won’t be having nearly as hard a time as his wife.

“June navigates a meeting where she must face both Commander Waterford and Nick,” the summary reveals. “Serena Joy attempts to recuperate at her mother’s home. Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) teaches June a hard lesson about the difficult decisions he makes as a Commander.”
