Happy birthday, Mariano Rivera!

Arguably the greatest relief pitcher of all time, Rivera turned 42 today, the same number he has worn on his jersey since he made his debut with the New York Yankees in 1995. The Panama native is a 12-time all-star, five-time World Series champion and the all-time leader in saves with 603.

Rivera made his debut as a relief pitcher, converted to setup man and eventually became the Yankees' permanent closer in 1997. Besides his saves record, some other achievements include the most consecutive seasons with at least 30 saves (9), lowest career postseason ERA (0.70) and most times in a career recording the final out of a World Series (4).
