Lionel Messi reportedly has not yet agreed to move from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Inter Miami next year.

Messi's current contract with PSG is due to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. While PSG have the option to extend the player's deal by a year, the Argentinian forward has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami.

Discussions between Messi and Inter Miami are not in an advanced stage, reported ESPN.

The former FC Barcelona star has said on numerous occasions he would like to play in the MLS in the future. Inter Miami could be a fine option for Messi, especially since he and his family vacation there regularly. The player also owns a house in Miami.

Messi, who won four Champions League titles with Barcelona, is expected to remain in Europe at least until 2024, reported Sky Sports.

As of now, the Argentina skipper has decided to solely concentrate on the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar and will not discuss his future until January, when he'll be able to begin negotiations with other clubs over a move.

The 35-year-old forward parted ways with his boyhood club Barcelona in the summer of 2021 and joined PSG on a free transfer. Messi had a slow start at his new club but he has now settled well in Paris. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has netted 12 goals and 14 assists for PSG in all competitions this season, indicating that he still has a few good years left under his belt.

It has also been reported that Inter Miami are looking to bring in more players who would complement Messi's skills. The MLS club is aiming to pair Messi with his former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas in their front attack.

Messi, who made his first-team debut in the 2004-05 season, has so far scored close to 700 senior goals across two clubs. Out of this, 672 goals came during his 17-season association with the Camp Nou side.

The PSG star is yet to win the World Cup with Argentina. Messi, who is playing his fifth World Cup, has two goals and an assist so far in the ongoing edition in Qatar.
